New York’s fast food industry has a ton of job openings: What does that mean for economy?

New York’s fast food industry, notably McDonald’s, is preparing to fill thousands of job openings this summer.

McDonald’s alone is reportedly looking to staff approximately 13,500 positions during the busy season, offering not just employment but benefits including discounted college tuition and transferable career skills.

On top of employment, these summer jobs can also provide educational benefits and skill-building opportunities. McDonald’s, for instance, provides tuition assistance for employees pursuing associate’s or bachelor’s degrees, and imparts skills valuable for other careers.

Other fast food chains are also stepping up; Burger King provides scholarship grants ranging from $1,000-$50,000, while Wendy’s offers expanded paid sick leave and supports new mothers with breast milk shipment reimbursement.
