No property tax in Tyre next year thanks to del Lago

Residents of Tyre will not receive a town tax bill in 2024, owing to significant revenue generated by the del Lago Resort & Casino.

The Town Board, in its Oct. 19 meeting, unanimously decided to apply $2.4 million of the revenue garnered from hosting the Route 414 casino.

This allocation will cover the town tax levy for general and highway funds next year.

The board took a further step to ease the tax burden by approving a separate resolution.

An additional $300,000 of casino revenue, sourced from the state Gaming Commission, will be used to slash the townโ€™s county tax levy for 2024.

In other developments, the board is deliberating the future of fire protection services in Tyre. Following the dissolution of the Magee Fire Department in early 2022, the town has relied on the neighboring Galen-Clyde Fire Department.

While the town seeks to reestablish its fire department in the long run, Supervisor Partee revealed ongoing discussions with various fire departments to identify the most suitable solution for 2024. The town remains committed to ensuring residentsโ€™ safety while they chart the best path forward.
