The Mega Millions lottery jackpot has swelled beyond $1 billion after Friday’s draw yielded no winners for the hefty $940 million grand prize.
As a result, the pot for the next draw on Tuesday, August 1 at 8 p.m. PT, has now climbed to a massive $1.05 billion.
While the colossal top prize remains unclaimed, players should hang onto their tickets as multiple matching numbers could still yield significant consolation winnings.
On Tuesday, for instance, four tickets sold in California netted over $13,000 each by matching four of the six numbers. However, lottery winners should keep in mind that their prizes will be subject to taxes, and the final take-home amount will depend on factors such as state taxes and whether they opt for a lump sum payment or an annuity payout.
