The Odessa-Montour School Board has given the green light for the establishment of boys and girls cross country teams starting next fall, following the advocacy of 7th grader Lexi Strobel. Strobel, who previously ran as a one-person team, successfully rallied for the sport’s expansion, with 27 students showing interest in joining. This initiative promises to broaden athletic opportunities, particularly for those not currently engaged in other sports.
Additionally, the board announced the resignation of Rob Francischelli, the beloved principal of Hanlon Elementary School for nine years, who is set to lead the GST BOCES Coopers Plains campus. His departure marks the end of a significant chapter for the school, with the board expressing gratitude for his dedicated service. Michael Siebert, a retired educator from Campbell, has been appointed as the interim principal, assuming the role immediately after the district’s February break.
This transition and the introduction of new sports teams reflect the dynamic changes within the Odessa-Montour School District, aiming to enrich both its educational and extracurricular landscapes.
