A corrections officer from the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office has pleaded not guilty on Monday to eavesdropping and official misconduct charges.
Adam Broadwell, 44, was taken into custody last week, accused of using a hearing device to listen in on conversations at the county courthouse, where he worked as a security personnel.
According to court documents, Broadwell used earbuds that could amplify sound to listen to conversations among jurors that were behind closed doors.
Broadwell’s defense attorney, Clark Zimmermann, said he was “confused” and did not comprehend the allegations. “It’s no different than putting a cup up against the wall,” Zimmermann told 13WHAM-TV. “The entire eavesdropping device charge and the eavesdropping allegation itself are stretched, in my opinion.”
Broadwell continues to be suspended without pay.
