A tragic snowmobile crash in the town of Martinsburg, Lewis County, claimed the life of a 54-year-old man from Ontario County on Wednesday.
Michael Spooner was riding a 2001 Polaris XC 800 cc snowmobile when he lost control on a curve on Rector Road and collided with a tree, leading to fatal injuries.
The incident, which occurred around 11:30 p.m., prompted a swift response from Lewis County Sheriff’s Deputies.
Despite the efforts of several bystanders who administered CPR before the arrival of emergency medical services, Spooner was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Martinsburg Fire Department, Lewis County Search and Rescue, and Groff’s Towing assisted the sheriff’s office in responding to the accident.
