Ontario inmate brought drugs into jail with intent to sell, deputies say

The Ontario County Sheriff’s Office has arrested an inmate at the county jail following an investigation into contraband there.

According to a news release, Spencer Tapscott, 23, was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance after he was found to have introduced drugs to the jail.

Another person brought the controlled substance to the jail and gave it to him. Deputies say he intended to sell the drugs inside the jail.

Tapscott was arraigned on the new charges and remanded to the jail. Additional charges are being presented to a grand jury, deputies added.
