Cornell University and the Ithaca Police Department are conducting an intensive search for an unidentified man reportedly seen with a semi-automatic handgun near the Cornell campus.
The incident, which occurred in the 500 block of University Ave on November 1 prompted an immediate response from the Cornell Police and the Ithaca Police Department.
Witnesses described the suspect as an Asian male of college age, dressed entirely in black. After being confronted, the individual fled northeast on University Avenue and has since eluded capture. The direction of his subsequent movements remains unknown, and authorities have not yet identified the suspect.
As the investigation continues, officers from the Tompkins County Sheriffโs Office and the New York State Police have joined the search efforts.
The police are urging anyone who was in the vicinity at the time of the incident to come forward with any information. Ithaca Police are accepting tips and assure that individuals may provide details anonymously if they choose to do so.
