Residents gather in Wolcott to hear about dissolution: Vote coming up March 12

In Wolcott, over a hundred community members gathered at a local middle school auditorium to discuss the potential dissolution of their village, a proposal that has stirred considerable concern among its residents.

The second public hearing on the matter featured insights from Laberge Group, a consultancy hired to explore the implications of dissolving the village government. With a crucial vote set for March 12, the findings aim to provide voters with a clear understanding of the consequences, including governance changes post-dissolution.

The push for dissolution, initiated by a petition that narrowly surpassed the required signature threshold, threatens to leave 13 village employees jobless, including two police officers. Mayor Chris Henner expressed strong opposition to the dissolution, highlighting the added stress on dedicated village workers and advocating for the preservation of the villageโ€™s identity and autonomy.
