Despite erasing a two-goal deficit, the Buffalo Sabres (11-14-3) fell 3-2 to the Montreal Canadiens (12-12-3) in a shootout at KeyBank Center on Saturday night.
Buffalo trailed 2-0 after 40 minutes before Jeff Skinner (12) and Kyle Okposo (4) scored in the third period to send the game to overtime. Victor Olofsson and Owen Power found the back of the net in the shootout, but Montreal converted on three of four attempts to win it.
Devon Levi stopped 29-of-31 shots in his second straight start.
The big difference in the game was special teams. Buffalo went 0-for-5 on the power and 3-for-4 on the penalty kill.
