Sabres open road trip with loss to Avalanche

The Buffalo Sabres opened a three-game road trip on Wednesday night in Colorado, and it did not start well as they suffered a 5-1 loss to the Avalanche.

Zach Benson scored the lone goal for Buffalo, who dropped to 12-15-3 (27 points) on the season. Rasmus Dahlin and JJ Peterka notched assists on the tally.

Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen made his first start in 10 days and stopped 25-of-30 shots.

Jeff Skinner left the game in the second period and did not return after taking a massive hit from Coloradoโ€™s Nathan MacKinnon.

The Sabres will continue the road trip Friday night in Vegas when they face the Golden Knights at 10 p.m.
