In Seneca County Court, concerns have been raised by Judge Barry Porsch regarding delays in a child sexual abuse case against Craig Kaufman and Angila Burnett, who face charges related to the alleged abuse of a child under 11.
The Finger Lakes Times reports that the delay stems from issues surrounding the turnover of 911 records, which are crucial for the trial. District Attorney John Nabinger highlighted the prosecution’s struggle to obtain and share these records with the defense, a key factor that could influence the case’s outcome.
The case, which has seen multiple developments since the defendants’ arrest in March 2022, is now under scrutiny for the handling of essential evidence. Nabinger, who took office in January 2024, discovered the 911 material had not been properly disclosed to the defense, prompting a motion to dismiss the case based on the defendants’ right to a speedy trial.
A decision on what comes next is expected February 28.
