The Seneca County Industrial Development Agency (IDA) is gearing up for a second public engagement session on October 2, focusing on the future redevelopment of the Willard Drug Treatment campus in Romulus.
Since the facility’s closure in March 2022, the Willard Taskforce, led by the IDA in collaboration with community stakeholders, has been proactively exploring potential future uses for the site. To facilitate this, the IDA has partnered with consulting firms, including MRB Group, EDR, Bero Architecture, and HRP Associates, to conduct a comprehensive “Highest & Best Use Study.”
Earlier in July, the IDA organized an open house to collate community feedback on the campus’s potential uses. Key takeaways included desires for historic preservation, affordable housing, waterfront access, rehabilitation of existing structures, and more community-centric spaces like a community center or senior living facilities. A subsequent session is scheduled for October 2, 4:30-7:30 pm, at South Seneca High School in Ovid.
The consultants will present preliminary redevelopment ideas and once again invite community comments. “Our community’s participation provides valuable insights into respecting Willard’s legacy while catering to current resident needs,” stated Sarah Davis, the IDA’s Executive Director.
