The Seneca County Sheriff’s Office, in collaboration with local police departments and the Ovid Fire Department, will hold a child seat check event on September 23.
Sponsored by the New York State Governors Traffic Safety Committee, the event runs from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Ovid Fire House, 2136 Brown Street. As part of a state-wide initiative called “Child Seat Saturday,” parents and caregivers can have their child safety seats inspected for proper installation by nationally certified technicians.
Studies have shown that a significant 8 out of 10 inspected child seats often have some form of error in their use or installation. The event aims to ensure that children in Seneca County are traveling safely. While the initiative is not a child seat giveaway, experts will be on hand to help with the correct installation of seats. Caregivers attending are encouraged to bring the children who will use the seats to ensure an accurate fit.
