In a move to bolster local housing initiatives, the Seneca County Board of Supervisors has unanimously voted to allocate $500,000 from its American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds to establish a Housing Trust Fund.
This decision, made without debate, earmarks a portion of the county’s $6.6 million ARPA allocation to address housing needs within the county.
The funding is set to provide a boost to the housing sector, reflecting the county’s commitment to developing and improving local housing opportunities.
The newly created Seneca County Housing Trust Fund will operate under the Department of Planning and Community Development. The resolution passed by the board mandates collaboration between the department and key county officials, including County Manager Kyle Lovell, Attorney David Ettman, and Finance Director Halle Stevens.
They are tasked with developing guidelines and procedures for implementing programs that will utilize the trust fund effectively. Priority for these housing initiatives will be given to projects associated with the Finger Lakes Regional Land Bank, Seneca Housing (a non-profit based in Seneca Falls), and the redevelopment of the former Willard Psychiatric Center campus in Romulus.
