During May’s Seneca Falls Town Board meeting issues involving the Historic District came to the forefront.
William Bailey, a new property owner at 216 Fall St., requested that his property be removed from the historic district. Bailey, who acquired the vacant home for back taxes, wants to renovate it for occupancy but disagrees with some of the historic district code’s stipulations.
Town Attorney Pat Morrell warned that removing a single parcel from the district could set a precedent that undermines its purpose.
Bailey’s appeal against the HPC’s denial of variances was overruled by the town Zoning Board of Appeals, and the issue may be headed to court. Supervisor Mike Ferrara suggested resolving the matter without litigation due to costs and indicated that the district boundaries can be further examined.
