Social media posts sends Arkport school into lockdown

A social media threat led to a lockdown and the arrest of a 13-year-old student at Arkport Central School on Thursday. Superintendent Jesse Harper reported that after being alerted to a potential threat, the school swiftly initiated a lockdown, contacting law enforcement for support.

New York State Police, along with local law enforcement agencies, responded to the scene. The young suspect was arrested without incident for making a terroristic threat, a serious charge. After processing, the student was released to Family Court, emphasizing the gravity of threats against school safety.

The school district, prioritizing the safety of its students and staff, followed established safety protocols, resulting in no active threat found. Classes resumed normal operations after the building was cleared. Superintendent Harper praised the swift response of law enforcement and the resilience of the school community, reminding everyone of the importance of maintaining a secure learning environment.
