Solar eclipse phone service: Will your smartphone work during the eclipse?

Cell phone service providers have assured that they are well-prepared for the expected massive crowds gathering to watch the upcoming solar eclipse, aiming to avoid the connectivity issues experienced during last Mayโ€™s PGA event at Oak Hill Country Club. Despite the challenges posed by 40,000 attendees last year, leading to widespread service interruptions, AT&T, Verizon, and T-Mobile have all made significant network enhancements. Verizon, in particular, has activated new cell sites and 5G nodes in Rochester, promising an improved experience for its customers.

This proactive approach comes as the city anticipates huge turnouts at popular venues such as Innovative Field, Parcel 5, and High Falls for the eclipse. T-Mobile and AT&T also confirmed their efforts to optimize their networks to ensure uninterrupted service, highlighting their coordination with local officials and first responders to accommodate the surge in data usage expected during the event.

With the lessons learned from the PGA event, the providers are encouraging customers to consider temporary plan upgrades to premium 5G services for an optimal viewing experience. This readiness signals a concerted effort to ensure that those gathering to witness the celestial event can stay connected and share the moment without the frustration of network congestion.
