In a joint operation on February 16, 2024, the New York State Police, alongside the Elmira Police Department, arrested 24-year-old Chase Hartke of Southport on nine counts of felony criminal possession of a weapon. Hartke was found with an array of illegal firearms, including rifles, a tactical shotgun, 3D-printed parts for ghost guns, high-capacity magazines, and various calibers of ammunition during a search warrant execution at his residence.
Following his arrest, Hartke was arraigned in the Town of Southport Court and subsequently remanded to the Chemung County Jail. The court set his bail at $10,000 cash or a $20,000 bond, pending further legal proceedings.
The operation saw collaboration between several law enforcement units, including the New York State Police – Troop E Violent Gangs and Narcotics Enforcement Team (VGNET), Troop E Uniform Force, the Elmira Police Department Drug Enforcement Unit, and the Gun Involved Violence Elimination (GIVE) detail, underscoring a concerted effort to combat illegal weapon possession.
