The Wayne Eagles are one win away from capturing its first New York State title after taking down Section VIII’s Friends Academy, 61-48, in the Class A semifinal on Friday morning at Cool Insuring Arena in Glens Falls.
It was a close contest for the first 16 minutes as Friends Academy (20-5) held a 14-13 lead after the first quarter and a 24-21 lead at halftime. However, it was a different game in the second half as Wayne’s (24-2) Cam Blankenberg came out on fire, scoring 11 of the Eagles 15 points in the third quarter and 15 of the 25 in the fourth, helping Wayne pull away for the victory. The Eagles outscored the Quakers 40-24 in the second half.
Blankenberg finished with a game-high 30 points for the second consecutive game. PJ Ostrowski tallied 21 points, 13 of which came in the first half. Josh Warner added eight, and Aidan Twist chipped in two.
