Syracuse man calls 911 saying he ran himself over in Seneca County: Later arrested for DWI, DWAI drugs

Authorities in Seneca County say a 70-year-old man faces a number of charges following an unusual incident on State Route 414 in the town of Varick.

Harold R. Matasar, a 70-year-old Syracuse resident, was charged with DWI, DWAI drugs, and criminal possession of a controlled substance following an incident that started with a 911 call.

The caller reported that a man had fallen out of his vehicle and accidentally ran himself over. The caller was Matasar, according to deputies, who say he left the scene before their arrival.

A search led to the discovery of the vehicle, which was traveling south in the town of Romulus, when a traffic stop was initiated.

He was checked over by South Seneca Ambulance and taken into custody. The charges will be answered at a later date.
