In a recent meeting, the Tompkins County Legislature made the decision to sell the property it owns at 408 North Tioga Street, which features the historic 1870s “Red House.”
The County’s decision was reported by 14850. It highlighted that the legislature, by a 13-1 vote, effectively decided the property as no longer serving a public purpose.
The county had purchased this property in 2019 with the initial aim to erect a building and parking facility to meet the organization’s space demands.
Historic Ithaca, an organization emphasizing the property’s residential potential and its rich history dating back to the late 1800s, lauded the legislature’s decision.
