The New York Mets (60-72) suffered a tough 4-3 loss to the Texas Rangers (74-57) in the series opener on Monday night at Citi Field after Trevor Gott blew a late lead.

Box Score

New York was leading 3-2 when Gott entered the game in the eighth inning, but the right-hander gave up three hits, including a go-ahead two-out, two-run single to Nathaniel Lowe. That was the difference in the contest after the Mets failed to rally in the ninth.

Brandon Nimmo belted his 19th home run of the season while DJ Stewart smacked his seventh.

Tylor Megill put together a nice outing, allowing just one run on five hits over six innings while striking out eight.

The Mets will try to even the series on Tuesday with Jose Quintana on the hill. The first pitch is set for 7:10 p.m.
