The Seneca County Court is bracing for a high-profile trial set to begin on Monday, involving Wayne Ellison Jr. of Waterloo and Christopher Kesterson of Phelps.
The two men are facing charges for the murder and criminal possession of a weapon in the death of William Waugh, a Texas resident and former Waterloo local.
The incident, which occurred on September 30, 2022, in a home on Route 96 in the town of Waterloo, reportedly stemmed from animosity following a bar fight.
The trial, which was initially scheduled for August 21, was postponed due to the late submission of additional discovery evidence by District Attorney Mark Sinkiewicz.
This delay was a subject of contention, with defense attorneys Lawrence Kasperek and Ben Susman, representing Ellison and Kesterson respectively, calling for sanctions against Sinkiewicz.
However, their motions for sanctions did not materialize, as the delay was deemed sufficient for the defense to review the new documents.
As the trial gears up to start with jury selection, anticipated to take around two days, the community awaits the unfolding of a case that has captured local attention for over a year now.
