Seneca County Sheriff Tim Thompson gave an update on a fatal accident that happened January 15 around 10:20 a.m. at the intersection of State Route 414 and Yellow Tavern Road.
First responders were called to that area in Fayette for the report of a crash with injuries and property damage. Upon arrival deputies observed two vehicles with heavy damage. They were assisted by Fayette Fire Department, extracting both drivers from the vehicles.
After further investigation it was determined that Lindsay Shirk, age 38, of Ovid was operating a Ford Expedition heading northbound on state Route 414. Meanwhile, Kathleen Irland, age 75, of Waterloo was operating a Honda Civic heading east on Yellow Tavern Road. As Shirk approached the intersection, Irland failed to stop at the stop sign on Yellow Tavern Road and was struck by the Expedition causing heavy damage to both vehicles.
Shirk was extracted through the windshield of her vehicle and transported to Strong Memorial Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries by Finger Lakes Ambulance. Deputies, EMTโs and fire personnel performed life saving measures on Irland but she succumbed to her injures.ย
Deputies were also assisted on scene by North and South Seneca Ambulance, NYSP and NYS DEC and Seneca County Sheriffโs Accident Reconstruction Team.
