A new exhibit celebrating the 75-year history of road racing in Watkins Glen has opened at the Schuyler County Historical Society. This exhibit, created in partnership with the International Motor Racing Research Center, showcases the evolution and cultural significance of road racing in the area. It’s located at the Brick Tavern Museum in Montour Falls and will be accessible to the public free of charge until the end of October.
The exhibit highlights the journey of road racing in Watkins Glen, starting from its inception in 1948 by Cameron Argetsinger. Visitors will explore four distinct eras of racing, the impact on local culture, and the family traditions born from the events. This initiative aims to educate and entertain guests by diving into the rich history of the sport in Schuyler County.
The grand opening reception, set for March 14 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., invites the public to experience this vibrant exhibit without an entrance fee. The Brick Tavern Museum offers hours on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and extended hours on Thursdays from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m., ensuring ample opportunity for interested individuals to visit.
