Supermarket chain Wegmans, backed by some state legislators, is pushing for New York to join 40 other states that permit the sale of wine in grocery stores.
This recent campaign, Wegmansโ second attempt following a failed 2010 effort, involves urging customers to contact their elected officials via a QR code linked website to approve wine sales in grocery stores. The move is aimed at providing convenience to consumers and boosting the New York wine industry.
Despite the advocatesโ optimism about potential legislative approval during the current session, local liquor store owners express concerns.
The proposed change, if approved, would only allow supermarket chains to sell wine, excluding both liquor and convenience stores.
