Welcome to CNY in Auburn? Bill to move welcome center proposed by Sen. May

A proposed bill by State Senator Rachel May could relocate the Central New York (CNY) Welcome Center from Syracuse’s Destiny USA to Auburn’s Equal Rights Heritage Center (ERHC). This move, pending the completion of existing contracts, aims to bolster the ERHC’s role in promoting regional and state attractions, including local food markets through the Taste NY initiative.

Initially planned for Auburn in 2016 by former Governor Andrew Cuomo, the CNY Welcome Center was instead established in Syracuse. Despite this, the ERHC, opened in 2018, has become a pivotal site for the area, hosting events and serving as a regional hub.

Celebrating its fifth anniversary in 2023, the ERHC could gain further prominence as the official CNY visitors center, fulfilling a commitment made in 2016. The bill is currently under review in the Senate’s Commerce, Economic Development, and Small Business Committee.
