Who will be next chief of police in Geneva? City down to three finalists

The City of Geneva announced the three internal finalists for the city’s police chief position, left vacant with the retirement of Mike Passalacqua on June 30.

The finalists are Detective Lieutenant Matt Colton, Patrol Sergeant Ron Eveland, and Road Patrol Lieutenant John Van Savage.

The officers, who all joined the force between 2008 and 2015, have advanced through the ranks, achieving their current positions between 2014 and 2023.

Interviews for the position will take place on July 13 and will be conducted in two phases. The first phase will involve traditional interviews with a panel of community, departmental, and city representatives in a closed session. The second phase will be community interviews, where candidates will answer questions gathered through a community survey and livestreamed for public feedback. City Manager Amie Hendrix will consider the feedback from both phases before making her decision.

The goal is to name a chief of police by August 1, city officials said.
