The bill arises from the inconvenience faced by travelers due to the closure of certain restaurants, like Chick-fil-A, on Sundays. The legislation specifically targets future agreements and does not require existing or planned Chick-fil-A outlets, currently part of the Thruway’s Service Area Redesign and Redevelopment project, to alter their operating schedules. The chain, known for its policy of closing on Sundays, has opened several locations at Thruway service areas, with more planned.
The proposal aims to provide consistent and reliable food service options for travelers, ensuring at least one hot and cold food option is available 24/7 at all locations.
