The New York Yankees (59-56) have had some ugly losses this season, and that was the case again Wednesday night as they fell 9-2 to the Chicago White Sox (47-69), dropping two of three in the series.
After Ian Hamilton opened the game with a 10-pitch scoreless first, New York turned to Luis Severino, who has statistically been one of the worst pitchers in Major League Baseball, and that backfired. The right-hander gave up four runs on five hits in two innings, raising his season ERA to 8.06.
The Yankeesโ offense had opportunities when it was a 5-2 game in the seventh, but they could not cash in, and Chicago put the game out of reach with a four-run eighth.
Giancarlo Stanton provided all the offense, belting his 18th home run of the season and plating a run with a groundout.
The Yankees will get the day off Thursday before they open a three-game series with the Marlins in Miami Friday night.
