The New York Yankees (49-43) jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning on Giancarlo Stanton’s tenth home run of the season but never scored again as they fell 7-2 to the Colorado Rockies (35-57) in the series opener.
Carlos Rodón made his second start of the season and allowed four runs on four hits over five innings while walking two and striking out six.
After Stanton’s first-inning homer, the Yankees collected six hits and went 1-for-7 with runners in scoring position. Gleyber Torres had three of New York’s eight total hits.
Michael King allowed a two-run homer, and Albert Abreu gave up a solo shot.
The Yankees, who have lost five of six, will try to get back in the win column on Saturday with Clarke Schmidt on the hill. The first pitch is set for 8:10 p.m.
