New York Yankees ace Gerrit Cole received the starting nod for the American League in Tuesday’s All-Star Game at T-Mobile Park in Seattle and tossed a scoreless inning, thanks to some outstanding defense behind him.
Cole retired Ronald Acuña Jr., Freddie Freeman, and J.D. Martinez on nine pitches but Adolis García and Randy Arozarena made two spectacular catches against the wall to help him out.
After his outing, Cole met with the media and said it was a “pretty fun experience.”
Cole became the first Yankee to start a Midsummer Classic since 2001 when Roger Clemens took the ball.
The Yankees will return to action Friday when they open a three-game series with the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field.
