We finally have an update on New York Yankees ace Gerrit Cole.
The right-hander will miss one-to-two months and will head to Los Angeles for an appointment with noted sports surgeon Dr. Neal ElAttrache, according to a report from the New York Post.
Several Yankees doctors and ElAttrache have viewed Cole’s preliminary film, and while none has detected a tear in his ulnar collateral ligament, there’s enough concern about the ligament that ElAttrache has suggested an in-person visit.
All things considered, this is positive news as he avoided season-ending Tommy John surgery.
Cole, 33, was sent for tests because he had trouble recovering after pitching this spring.
The reigning American League Cy Young winner has thrown 1279.2 innings since 2017, the most in Major League Baseball.
It remains to be seen if the Yankees will make a trade for another starting pitcher, but they have reportedly re-engaged trade talks with the Chicago White Sox for righty Dylan Cease.
