DJ LeMahieu put the Yankees on the board in the sixth inning with an RBI single to left field, and Gleyber Torres put them on top with a two-run single to right field.
Clay Holmes walked the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth but induced a game-ending 4-6-3 double play to secure his 19th save of the season.
Game 2 of the doubleheader is slated for 7:10 p.m. It will be Carlos Rodón vs. Kutter Crawford.
