Major League Baseball umpires continue to pick and choose when they want to enforce rules.
On Wednesday, the Cleveland Guardians were allowed to challenge a catch in the first inning well after the new 15-second rule. The challenge did not come until everyone ran off the field and watched it on the jumbotron.
New York Yankees outfielder Aaron Hicks did not catch the ball as it was called on the field, but since the Guardians did not challenge within the 15-second range, the game should have moved on as the MLB rules state. Instead, everyone had to retake the field, and the Guardians took a 2-0 lead in the first inning.
As expected, Yankees manager Aaron Boone was not happy with the result and was tossed from the game.
