Yankees manager Aaron Boone provides updates on injured players as spring training begins

Pitchers and catchers reported to spring training on Wednesday morning, and shortly after, Yankees manager Aaron Boone spoke to the media and provided updates on injured players.

Boone revealed that right-handed reliever Scott Effross, who missed the 2023 season after undergoing Tommy John surgery, had back surgery in December and wonโ€™t be ready for game action until summertime.

In addition to that, catcher Jose Trevino strained his calf a few weeks ago and wonโ€™t play in spring training games for the first couple of weeks. However, Boone said he expects him to be ready for Opening Day.

With Effross out until this summer, a spot in the Yankeesโ€™ bullpen is now available. Candidates include arms with big-league experience like Ron Marinaccio, Cody Poteet, Cody Morris, and Nick Ramirez, and prospects likeย Will Warren, Clayton Beeter, and Yoendrys Gรณmez.

New Yorkโ€™s 34-game spring training slate begins Saturday, February 24.
