Yankees win first series since late July

The New York Yankees (65-68) picked up a 6-2 victory over the Detroit Tigers (59-74) on Wednesday night at Comerica Park, securing their first series win since July 21-23.

DJ LeMahieu, Gleyber Torres, and Giancarlo Stanton went deep, while Everson Pereira added a run-scoring single.

Gerrit Cole tossed six innings of two-run ball, both of which came via two solo home runs. The right-hander has allowed two earned runs or fewer in 21 starts this season, the most in Major League Baseball.

Ian Hamilton entered in relief of Cole, tossing three shutout frames and notching his second save of the season.

The Yankees will hand the ball to Clarke Schmidt on Thursday at 1:10 p.m. as they go for the four-game sweep.
