In Yates County, a collaborative community effort has successfully raised funds for a new transportation option to assist veterans in reaching their medical appointments.
Key organizations, including the Johnson-Costello American Legion Post 355, Yates County Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 745, Penn Yan Moose Lodge, Penn Yan Elks Lodge, and Relative Risk Brewing, have collectively raised $21,000.
This amount, doubled through matching funds by the Department of New York Disabled American Veterans, was used to purchase a seven-passenger Ford Explorer for the Disabled American Veterans (DAV).
The new vehicle, intended to serve veterans in the county, was presented by the DAV to the VA Finger Lakes Healthcare System in Canandaigua. This initiative reflects the communityโs commitment to supporting its veterans, particularly in facilitating access to necessary healthcare services.
To maximize the new vehicleโs potential, Yates County and the Healthcare System are actively recruiting qualified volunteer drivers. A town hall meeting is scheduled for February 15 at the Yates County Office Building Auditorium, from 6 to 8 p.m.
