Cops: Boy, 17, faces murder charge in Hempstead man’s death

Nassau County police have charged a 17-year-old Hempstead boy with second-degree murder in connection with the death of a man last week in the village after suffering a blow to the head.

The victim, identified Monday night as Adiel Umanzor-Martinez, 61, also of Hempstead,ย was found just before 11 a.m. on Feb. 26 โ€œwith a blunt force trauma injury to his headโ€ at a home on Maryland Avenue, the police said in a news release.

Police had been called to the home for a report of the man not breathing. He was declared dead at the scene after he was found in an upstairs bedroom, police said.

The teenager, who was not identified, is set to be arraigned Tuesday in youth offender court in Hempstead.
