POUGHKEEPSIE – National Night Out 2023 is taking place on Tuesday, August 1st at Poughkeepsie City Hall at 62 Civic Center Plaza, in Poughkeepsie. The historically well-attended event is being held between the hours of 5:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. with more than 50 organizations, many of which are community-based, will be set up to introduce attendees to their services.
Detective Karen Zirbel said “I have organized this event with multiple community-based organizations so that people can come to one place and see all of the amazing resources we have here. It’s pretty awesome to see everyone together, in true community fashion.”
The police and fire departments will be displaying their emergency vehicles, along with other organizations, so that attendees young and old, can explore the apparatus and equipment and ask questions to the people that operate them. There will also be an opportunity to meet police k9s and see a police drone.
Detective Zirbel stressed that there is something for everyone at National Night Out. Children of all ages can visit the petting zoo, jump in the bouncy house, get their faces painted, play with a bubble machine, and enjoy balloon animals. All of the activities are free of charge.
This year, a new exhibitor will be on hand with miniature horses for people to meet. “If kids want a chance to see some unique animals, National Night Out in Poughkeepsie is the place to do it,” Zirbel said.
Because the event is taking place at dinner time, free hot dogs, popcorn, slushies, and cotton candy. Food trucks will also be selling their culinary delights to hungry visitors.
Zirbel also noted that organizations are still able to participate by emailing her at [email protected].
