FOXBOROUGH, MA – The United States Military Academy Black Knights overtook the Midshipmen of the United States Naval Academy in the annual Army-Navy football game on Saturday at Gillette Stadium. The Army team, wearing uniform colors to honor the Army’s Third Infantry Division who were the first boots on the ground for Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2003. The sand-colored uniforms with tank-division markings on them represented the running game that Army brought to the 17-11 victory.
The Army running backs repeatedly punished the Midshipmen, adorned in deep sea blue with “Silent Service” lettering in recognition of the Navy’s submarine service.
Both teams came into the game with a record of five wins and six losses. When the final cannon burst sounded, Army was holding the 170-pound Commander-in-Chief trophy for the first time since 2020 and the fourth time in seven years.
The Black Knights of West Point were guided by Head Coach Jeff Monken, in his tenth year at the service academy. With a win Saturday, Army secured bowl eligibility for the fourth consecutive season while the team from Annapolis, MD experienced their fourth straight losing season.
