BEACON – City police are investigating an incident that resulted in three people being treated at the hospital for wounds possibly caused by a knife. The incident was first reported at 12:17 a.m. Wednesday, according to Beacon Police Chief Tom Figlia.
Chief Figlia stated that officers responded to the area of Looper’s Plaza at the intersection of South and Wolcott Avenues after a 911 dispatcher received a call in which the caller, described as being “upset” said “Looper’s Plaza,” and provided no further information. Officers responded to the area and confronted individuals walking out of South Avenue Park. Officers noticed that one person, a 16-year-old male was bleeding and told police his wound was the result of being stabbed during a fight he had been involved in.
The teen was taken by ambulance to St. Luke’s -Cornwall Montefiore Hospital where he was treated for a non-life-threatening laceration to his head. While officers were interviewing the wounded teen at the hospital, Figlia said, two additional teens, a 17-year-old female and an 18-year-old male arrived at the hospital. The two older teens also had non-life-threatening lacerations and were suspected of being involved in the same incident.
The investigation is ongoing and anyone who may have witnessed the incident or who has further information is urged to call the Beacon Police Department at (845)831-4111 and ask to speak to a detective.
