Borscht Belt markers trace Catskills history of era (VIDEO)

MONTICELLO – The second Borscht Belt marker will be dedicated in Sullivan County on Sunday to commemorate the history of the cultural and entertainment of the iconic period in the history of the Catskills.

The marker will be dedicated in Mountain Dale, says project founder Marissa Scheinfeld.

“Mountain Dale is one of the oldest Borscht Belt towns. It was one, if not the first stop on the railroad when it came up to the county pre-dating the highway,” she said.

Eventually there will be 20 of those markers tracing the history of the era.

The Jewish American Society for Historic Preservation is funding the trail, which when completed, will feature an audio tour with an associated app.
