BREAKING: Manhunt underway for perp who stole cop car

EAST FISHKILL – A burglary in progress in East Fishkill just after 12:00 noon on Friday has turned into a large-scale manhunt for the suspects.  There is a heavy police presence along the Taconic State Parkway south of Interstate 84.

Initial reports indicate that East Fishkill police units responded to a report of a burglary in progress at a residence on Hortontown Road in East Fishkill at approximately 12:15 p.m.  Police are believed to have interrupted the

burglar and at one point, an officer discharged his firearm.

At least one subject was able to gain access to an unmarked East Fishkill Police Department vehicle and flee the scene.

The police car was involved in a collision near the intersection of Route 301 and the Taconic State Parkway and the subject is reported to have fled on foot.

A large number of State Troopers and other police officers are conducting a manhunt in the area of Fahenstock State Park.  State police helicopters have also been deployed to the area to assist with the search.

At 1:14 p.m. an alert was issued to all involved officers to be on the lookout for the subject, now identified as Joseph Gourd, a 41-year-old parolee who is to be considered “dangerous”.

The wanted three-time felon who has spent nearly 20 years in prison for three different convictions, is described as follows:

A white male wearing jeans, orange t-shirt, and baseball hat.  The subject may be wearing another t-shirt either over or under the orange shirt.
