MONTGOMERY – Steven Brescia has served as mayor of the Village of Montgomery for the last 34 years while at the same time, spending the last 30 yeas a member of the Orange County Legislature.
But, when he was elected in November as Montgomery town supervisor, he knew he would have to resign from the two other posts.
Village residents, state and county officials alike praised him Tuesday night at which time me made it official, he will step down as mayor on December 31. Brescia said he is leaving the village is excellent condition.
“We are in good financial shape. We are a very safe village, clean village, historic village, hardworking village, one of the best villages in the State of New York,” he told a crowd of well-wishers at village hall.
After the first of the new year, Brescia will take over as CEO of the town after serving on the village board for 37 years.
