Car crashes into house; catches fire

VAILS GATE – Firefighters from Eastern Orange County braved the bitter cold weather at mid-morning on Friday when a car slammed into a house at 2362 Route 32 in Vails Gate and caught fire. The flames destroyed the vehicle and extended to the house.

Despite the frigid weather, firefighters encountered extreme heat but where able to knock down the main body of the fire in about a half hour of when it was reported just before 10:30 a.m.

Vails Gate was assisted by Washingtonville Coldenham and Newburgh City firefighters.

It was not immediately known if there were any injuries.
