City seeking proposals for waterfront building with dock space

POUGHKEEPSIE – The City of Poughkeepsie is looking for a qualified operator to revive an idle restaurant building at the city’s most vibrant waterfront park.  Mayor Marc Nelson announced on Tuesday that the city is seeking proposals from qualified individuals to operate the Ice House at Waryas Park.

Until being vacated, the restaurant with boat dock access, had served as an anchor eatery along with the River Station Restaurant, located on the south side of the park.  The River Station recently announced they will be closing at the end of October.

The deadline for submissions to the city’s request for proposals is November 6.

Since the early 2000s, the Ice House has been leased for commercial use, initially offering concessions and eventually a full-scale restaurant beginning in 2012. Find out more here – https://www.cityofpoughkeepsie.com/CivicAlerts.aspx?AID=247

“This is an ideal place for a restaurant in a unique, wonderful setting,” said Mayor Marc Nelson. “We are looking forward to the proposals we receive and are looking for ones that complement existing park uses as well as create a new draw for residents and visitors alike.”

Former Mayor, now Senator Rob Rolison, a 35-year resident of the city is pleased to see the city look for an operator.  “It’s a great location – given the right circumstances, I think it could be a successful business venture.”  He did note that the location has experienced some minor flooding in the past when the Hudson River tidal flow and heavy rainstorms teamed up to bring water over the bank of the river.
