Connecticut man arrested following high-speed chase; issued appearance ticket

POUGHKEEPSIE – A New Hartford, Connecticut man led police on a high-speed chase throughout portions of Dutchess County on Thursday night before finally being stopped in the Town of Dover at approximately 9:20 p.m.  The pursuit began when police attempted to pull the car over in Pleasant Valley at approximately 8:45 p.m. Thursday.  The driver failed to obey the police lights and sirens and sped away.

Thirty-seven-year-old Adam Wesolowski, the driver of the vehicle, was charged with three felony counts of criminal mischief and one misdemeanor count of obstruction of governmental administration.  He was also charged with misdemeanor reckless endangerment, two misdemeanor counts of fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle, and one misdemeanor count of operating a motor vehicle while impaired by drugs.  After arraignment, he was issued appearance tickets for a future court date and released from custody.

The chase began in Pleasant Valley and proceeded to Millbrook, eventually going south on Route 22.  At one point, the subject’s car lost one tire and he kept fleeing.  At approximately 80 MPH, he attempted to strike a state police vehicle. Police were authorized to deploy “Stinger” tire deflation devices in an attempt to stop the suspect.  The stingers deflated the remaining three tires and the subject continued fleeing, operating the vehicle riding on the rims.

On a side road off Route 22, Wesolowski struck a state police vehicle.  He was eventually stopped and taken into custody near the intersection of Old Route 22 and Sherman Hill Road in Dover.
