NEWBURGH – The Kearney Group, which has developed housing projects in Poughkeepsie, ceremonially broke ground for East End Lofts in the City of Newburgh on Friday.
The 66-affordable apartments will be constructed at 15 South Colden Street.
“This is a big day for the City of Newburgh,” Mayor Torrance Harvey said. “The project went through an extensive review process by the Newburgh Strategic Economic Development Committee, which gave it the green light.
Developer Ken Kearney said funding for the project came in part from the State Division of Housing and Community Renewal and federal funds administered through Orange County.
“This is the best example of a public and private sector partnership coming together to fulfill a critical need in the City of Newburgh – housing,” said Assemblyman Jonathan Jacobson. “The only way to solve the crisis of the lack of housing is to build more housing.”
Of the 66 affordable apartments in East End Lofts, 49 will be one bedroom and 17 will be two-bedroom units. People with incomes between $25,000 and $107,000 will be eligible for an apartment in the complex.
